Biography

Robert F. Sappio, CEO of SeaCube Container Leasing Ltd., has an extensive background in the industry with more than 40 years of experience. Mr. Sappio joined SeaCube in 2014 as COO and assumed his current position in 2017. Under his leadership, SeaCube has been successfully positioned as a leading global lessor of intermodal equipment with a focus on the advancement of refrigerated equipment solutions.

By investing in cutting-edge technology and offering innovative sustainability solutions, SeaCube ensures that its refrigerated equipment protects the integrity of temperature-controlled cargo throughout its journey while also reducing environmental impact.

Highly regarded for his leadership in the liner shipping field, Mr. Sappio has a background of more than 30 years with APL during the time it was developing its modern containership fleet. Throughout his tenure at APL, he held various management positions in both Asia and the United States, including VP of Greater China and SVP overseeing APL's activities in the Trans-Pacific, Trans-Atlantic, and Latin America regions. After his time at APL, he served as the head of North America for Rickmers-Linie and was with the consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal.

Notably, Mr. Sappio was recently bestowed with the prestigious 2023 Connie Award by the Containerization and Intermodal Institute (CII). This esteemed accolade is considered one of the highest honors within the global trade and transportation industry.
