American Journal of Transportation
June 26, 2023
The logistics of perishables is significantly different than that of dry freight, especially as pertains to the seaborne movement of refrigerated containers, better known as reefers. As with dry containers, the reefer business experienced some “headwinds” early in the year. Staggering as these numbers might be, they do not consider the hidden costs of food production, including labor, storage and salvage or the expenses related to customer dissatisfaction, lost opportunities and inventory/stocking level imprecision.
